Creative Team

Just as each Masterpiece is different, so is the creative team that works on it. Living Celebrations carefully selects from among a wide range of highly talented and award-winning artists and craftspeople, such as those listed below.

Steve Beebe attended Virginia Commonwealth University in their renowned Communications Arts and Design Department. While a student he was employed at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and later as a graphic artist for James River Corp. in Richmond. A focus on 3-dimensional graphic design coupled with architectural interests led to a career as a freelance artist, crafting scale models for clients from Manhattan and Greenwich, CT to Beverly Hills, CA. He has designed and hand crafted miniatures for specialty shops across the country, including the Washington Toy Museum of noted miniature enthusiast and author Flora Gill Jacobs. His work has been featured in various publications such as Nutshell News and Miniature Collector Magazine.

Roy W. Butler possesses a rare talent for creating sensitive and moving images that touch the soul. Mr. Butler is a self-taught sculptor with a 35 year career in the fine arts. His work has been published internationally and includes sculpting credits from national historical monuments listed with The Smithsonian Institute, members of the entertainment industry including Oprah Winfrey’s father, sports celebrities, international magazines, public exhibits and commissions for private and corporate collections throughout the United States. His trademark ability to create life-size figurative sculptures with exacting detail has received international critical acclaim.

Ana Cordeiro, originally from Brazil, is an experienced bookbinder with a background in letterpress printing, silkscreen, woodcut, and calligraphy. After completing a work/study program at The Center for Book Arts, she interned at the Woman’s Studio Workshop in New York. In 2005, Ana was the recipient of the Stein Scholarship for Advanced Studies in Book Arts. In 2006, she became Project Coordinator for limited editions at CBA and Bindery Steward. Ana's works are held in the Library of Congress as well as museums and other major collections throughout the United States.

Cynthia Watts Clark is an illustrator who works primarily in watercolor and gouache. She often incorporates handmade papers and collage techniques in her work and is influenced by Japanese block prints. Recognized by the Society of Illustrators and included in “The One Show” for children’s illustration, she has created editorial work for many books and magazines, and developed business-themed illustrations for Fortune Magazine, Business Week, and Institutional Investor.

Maureen Cummins is a letterpress printer with a focus on printmaking and artist’s books. Her work is held in over one hundred public collections throughout the United States, as well as in Canada, Kenya, England, Egypt, New Zealand, South Africa, and South America. Institutional collectors include the National Gallery, the British Library, the Brooklyn Museum, and the Library of Congress. Maureen has received over a dozen grants, funded residencies, and awards, and was recently an artist-in-residence at the Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Marie-Céleste Edwards is the hand papermaker, book binder and master letterpress printer of DHP Papermill & Press. A native of Canada, she began her career in commercial art in 1983 as an apprentice. Ten years later she was awarded Advanced Standing to 3rd Year to the Ontario College of Art to study Illustration. She graduated in 1996, moved to New York City and by serendipity discovered hand papermaking, book binding and letterpress printing. The first sale of one of her hand bound objects in 1997 gave birth to DHP Papermill & Press and since then, more than 40 of her exquisitely crafted designs have been showcased in magazines like BRIDE’S, Country Living, Food Arts, IN STYLE Weddings, New York magazine, Victoria, WeddingBells magazine, WeddingChannel magazine and in two books from The Perfect Wedding book series.

Kendall Harris was born and raised in New Mexico, and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and A Master of Arts Degree. Ken was an artist at the world headquarters of American Greetings Card Company for 12 years. He is a nationally known instructor of gilding and medieval illumination.  Ken has studied extensively in New York and London. He owns his own decorative painting company and lives with his wife in St. George, Utah.

Ian Johnston is a talented storyboard artist, illustrator, photographer, and graphic designer. He received his BS in Art / Illustration-Animation from Southern Utah University in 2000. Since then he has worked as a professional storyboard artist with Utah director Chris Heimerdinger for movie "Passage to Zarahemla" that was released in 2007. He has also illustrated for a national children’s newspaper as well as a number of children's books.

L.K. Levine is an accomplished artist and calligrapher who specializes in Judaica. Her works are included in collections of the Simon Weisenthal Center in Los Angeles, the Doheny Synagogue in Budapest, the Orthodox and Heroes Synagogues in Budapest, and in private collections across the United States, Europe, Canada and Israel. In the late nineties, Levine began a long-term project, to calligraph and screen-print the English translation of the Torah. This five-book project, which includes text in Uncial, chapter titles in Hebrew lettering embossed in gold, and marbling at the end of each chapter reflecting the chapter text, was completed in late 2001. They were shown for the first time to the public in November 2003 at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum in Newburgh, New York. Levine lives and works with her husband, painter Brian Shapiro, in New York’s historic Hudson Valley.

Charles Pearce was named a Fellow of the Society of Scribes and Illuminators in London, the most prestigious honor that can be bestowed upon a calligrapher. He was also the first, and thus far, only, calligrapher to be granted an artist’s residency in New York City. Charles is the author of a number of books on calligraphy and has given lectures and workshops on the topic throughout the world. His past clients include, in London, Her Majesty’s Crown Office at the House of Lords, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, and the Royal Mint; and, in New York, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Chamber of Commerce, and FAO Schwarz.

Richard W. Prouse has been a professional artist for over 25 years, creating unique works of original decorative and scenic art for a wide range of industrial and residential clientele. His scenic artwork has appeared in film, television and over thirty-five Broadway productions. Richard has also created original costumes for the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, the Hong Kong Ballet, and Vassar College Dance. In addition to his theatrical credits, Richard's exquisite trompe l'oeil, bas relief and sculpture can be seen in numerous restaurants and private residences in New York City, Houston, Santa Fe and Los Angeles. And his series of one-of-a-kind art dolls are represented in the world famous collection of actress Demi Moore.

Nancy Sans is an Emmy Award–winning writer whose work has appeared on HBO, Cinemax, and PBS. As a writer and consultant for the acclaimed children’s series Sesame Street, Nancy put words in the mouths of Big Bird, Elmo, and Grover as well as such visiting celebrities as Jeff Goldblum, Barbara Walters, Tim Robbins, and Yo-Yo Ma. During the time she was writing the TV version of Sesame Street, Nancy also wrote and directed the stage version of the show, Sesame Street Live. Her shows still tour here in the United States as well as in Japan, Germany, and Great Britain.

Luis Santiero is a long-time writer for Sesame Street, for which he has won fourteen Emmy Awards. He was also head writer for the acclaimed PBS series and first-ever bilingual sitcom ¿Qué Pasa, U.S.A.?, which earned him another Emmy. Luis has developed sitcom pilots for ABC/Warner Television, HBO, CBS, and Norman Lear/Embassy Productions as well as a screenplay for New Line Cinema. His theatrical work includes Praying With the Enemy and Land O’Fire, both winners of the National Latino Playwriting Award; the musical Barrio Babies, which received the Richard Rodgers Foundation and Edward Kleban Musical Theatre awards; and Our Lady of the Tortilla, which has had over one hundred productions across the country. Luis is the recipient of a 1991 Hispanic Achievement Award; a 1993 Hispanic Heritage Award; and a 1995 National Hispanic Academy of Media Arts & Sciences Award.

Brian Shapiro paints cityscapes, landscapes, portraits, Judaica, scenes from American Jewish life, and more. He received his M.F.A. in painting in 1967 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught for several years before moving to rural Wisconsin where he painted landscapes and farm life as well as designing and building four homes. In 1980, Shapiro moved to Hollywood, where he created over 200 paintings depicting movie making which were shown by the Smithsonian Institution in museums across the United States, and by the U.S. State Department in Europe. He was the first person to have a one-person show of paintings at the Motion Picture Academy. In 1993, he began a series of paintings focusing on Israel (which he exhibited through the Israeli Consulate) and on the American Jewish Renaissance. In 2002, he began a new series of paintings on New York City. The artist works and resides with his wife, artist L.K. Levine, in New York’s historic Hudson Valley.

Kathleen Tracy, celebrity biographer, author and journalist, has been writing for over twenty years. Her work has been featured in magazines including A&E Biography, The Herald, KidScreen, VideoAge, TV Times and Variety. She is also the author of over 50 books including the celebrity biographies of Angelina Jolie, Jerry Seinfeld, Morgan Freeman and Ellen DeGeneres, to name a few. Her biographies of Judy Blume (Greenwood Publishing) and Sacha Baron Cohen (St. Martin’s) were released in 2007. Unkindness of Ravens, the first of a new mystery book series was recently released by Paribus Press.

Teresa Wilber has taught calligraphy, paper arts, and book arts for over twenty-five years. Her artistic work has been commissioned by individuals as well as corporations and includes unique and elaborate honor scrolls and leather-bound scroll cases and awards. Among her past clients are Phillips Petroleum Company, the Williams Companies, and the University of Oklahoma. Teresa’s creations have been featured in exhibits in Washington, D.C., Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas, with a recent one-woman show at Tulsa Community College. She is an active member of the Calligraphy Guild of Oklahoma, and has been awarded the CGO Honorary Life Membership for her work and achievements with calligraphy and arts education.
